Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Remain Calm
We’re in the thick of the holiday season and there seems to be so much to do: shopping, cooking, preparing for holiday guests and decorating. It is easy to feel stressed or anxious this time of year. Here are a few suggestions to help make this season a little more joyful:
1. Remain Calm. Remember to breathe and not let the little things get to you. If your favorite store is out of whatever it was that you were looking for, maintain a sense of flexibility as best as you can. Don’t get easily bothered by people who may not be the most cheerful or helpful. Don’t let anyone steal your joy!
2. Remember what’s important. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: It’s all about perspective. There will always be someone who has more than you and someone who has less. Focus on what you find most necessary to achieve this holiday (Seeing that special family member? Buying that one special gift? Having some time to yourself for reflection and regeneration?) Traditions are important but change is necessary sometimes too.
3. It’s ok to say “no”. We might be too tight on time or money to say “yes” to every party we’re invited too. It’s ok to plan for a quiet night in instead of filling every weekend making plans.
4. Make a list and check it twice. Writing down all that needs to be done can help you prioritize all you need to accomplish. When you have a few minutes to spare you can cross something small off on your to do list and save the larger chores for times when you can devote more of yourself to those tasks.
We love this time a year and all of our traditions old and new. Following our own advice isn’t always easy, but it does make the season brighter!
