Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: Summer Donations

A lot of times when we think of donating items we no longer need, we think of giving blankets, boots and coats; winter items that are sorely needed by those less fortunate. That season also brings the holidays and society is awesome when giving gifts to children. In the fall we think clean up, in the spring it’s clean out but what about this time of year? The need just doesn’t go away. People that are struggling can definitely use your summer donations…here’s a few ideas:
A little boy may be getting assistance to attend summer camp but needs things like bathing suits, flip-flops and sunscreen. See what your kids have outgrown and donate.
A garage clean out this time of year could go towards any good cause – think bikes that are too small, unused pool toys or that kite that’s been in the package for 3 years that you never got around to using.
Any old luggage you no longer need, camping equipment, bbq’s, patio furniture, all great things to donate this time of year.
Don’t forget there is need in everyone’s neighborhood.  Your donations could be a treasure to someone!

Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: Adjusting to Endings and Beginnings

Image result for endings and beginnings

When one door closes, another opens. A well heard phrase that is a part of life. It relates to many things: opportunities, failures, beginnings and endings. We are personally experiencing a few changes in our lives which bring closure to some things and starts to others. Adjusting to a new way of life and big upheavals come along every now and again. Sometimes it is welcome, other times very hard.

In a few weeks we would like to delve into this personally but for now, we are taking some time to adjust to these changes.  Are you going thru any endings or beginnings?  How are you handling it?  A friend recently said: Remember to take some time to enjoy each moment; cherish all of your memories.  Advice we like to give but are taking now!  More to come…

Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: Celebrate Freedom!

There will be plenty of 4th of July celebrations this weekend, and we have a lot of freedoms to be thankful for as we celebrate our independence.

Thinking about the big picture, of course we are always grateful for our everyday freedoms we have here in America and we honor those who fought and continue to fight for all that we have. On a smaller scale, we try not to take for granted the little freedoms we experience everyday like taking a walk or voicing our opinions, the freedom to live our lives meaningfully and happily.  On more of a thoughtful scale, summer time brings a different kind of freedom for most people – mental freedom. When you have kids on any kind of school schedule, it feels so good to be free from all of the time constraints (waking up at 6am, being home for the bus, running to dance lessons at 4pm – you know the drill!).  Many people have different work schedules in the summer or take lots of vacation time.  There is a peaceful feeling in the air this time of year, and hopefully lots of lazy days.

So happy 4th of July!  We hope you are enjoying and celebrating all of your freedoms!
