Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Fun Weekend!

For the second year in a row we took a fantastic girls weekend away with our mom.  Our mission was getting a start on our Christmas shopping, eating of course and quality family time.

We don’t like to drive more than 3 hours, just enough for a get-away with an overnight stay.  We started early in the morning and stopped for lunch at a Cracker Barrel.  Home style food and nostalgic candy, perfect for stocking stuffers!  On to Yankee Candle Village in Massachusetts for hours of shopping which is always fun.  Their tree lighting was scheduled for the day we went which meant epic crowds and a line to pay that practically wrapped around the store.  Luckily it moved fast and everybody waiting was in a friendly “it’s Christmastime” frenzy!

We checked into an inn not too far away and had a lovely farm to table meal at their in-house restaurant.  The 3 of us shared small plates for dinner so we could try a variety of dishes.  After breakfast the next morning we headed home and the ride practically flew by because we were so engaged in deep conversation.  Such a great time for us to be together, refresh our spirits and enjoy the season!

Our parents are making a scrumptious turkey with stuffing and we will bring more sides and dessert. Thank you for reading our blog and we wish you an abundance of peace!

Twin blessings, Holly & Heather

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Time

We are both listening to a daily meditation that Oprah and Deepak Chopra put out from time to time. The current particular session is all about time. The interesting thing is it is not about time management but about changing your whole perception of how time is used in your life.  The two points that seem to shine thru are: being able to live in the present and self-awareness.

How often do we trudge thru our days in a fog of a routine or “must-do” list without fully living in the moment?  Being aware and present is a mindset that can be hard to cultivate but exercising that muscle can bring you unbelievable joy in the tiniest moments.  Even sitting in traffic can be relaxing with a few deep breaths and the right music!  The passage of time in our lives is inevitable, making that time fulfilling can be life-changing.

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Take a Fall Walk

We’ve lived in the Northeast our entire lives and are still discovering new places to visit! Little hidden lakes and walking trails are so enjoyable this time of year. No matter where you live, getting out in nature, every day, is so important. It is worth at least ten minutes of your time to walk outside, take in your surroundings and breathe fresh air. Your body, mind and spirit need this to thrive. Trust us, you will be happier for it!

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Fall Food

Ah yes, it’s that time of year in the northeastern U.S. of A. when we are all about fall comfort food. Our slow cookers have come out of their summer hibernation. We are using our root vegetables from our farm shares (still going strong!). And then there are some new goodies to try. That’s what Holly did with a market purchase after a summer vacation in South Carolina. Here’s the recipe for the picture above:

Hush Puppies!

Ingredients – 2 cups of hush puppy mix, 1 egg, 1 cup of milk.

Heat about two inches of oil in a deep skillet. Drop quarter sized dough mix into hot oil cooking about two to three minutes on each side till golden. Place on a paper towel lined plate to cool.
